I’m just from Basel/Switzerland, where I spent the last few days to attend the first orchestral rehearsal of the arrangements/orchestrations I did together with Robert Emery and Moritz Schneider for the event concert by the Swiss band Lovebugs. On February 4th, 5th and 6th they will play their most popular songs together with the Basel Symphony Orchestra.
We had the first rehearsal day right in the same location where the concerts will take place – the famous Stadtcasino Basel. After working on a very tight schedule on 90 minutes of full symphonic music we were all very much looking forward to hearing and seeing the music come to life. Of course having an orchestra play together with a rock band is always a bit of a difficult situation, especially concerning acoustic issues.
Also, as opposed as in “normal” symphonic music, the orchestra musicians have to play very tight in order to get these arrangements to groove. Thanks to the very open minded musicians of the orchestra who obviously enjoyed participating in that project and our very energetic conductor Robert Emery, the whole rehearsal went very good.
In spite of the massive amount of music and the time pressure, the scores were practically without errors, which made the rehearsal run through very smoothly.
We all had lots of fun and finished the rehearsal day with a very good feeling. The next step now is to integrate the complete band (we only had drums & piano so far) into the rehearsals and to set up the sound and light system.
I’m very much looking forward to these concert and am looking forward to seeing everybody again very soon.
