Homogenous (String) Voicings

When you want to create a homogenous sound for example in the string section, take care that adjacent voices don’t exceed an octave. This is just a rule of thumb and sometimes, voice leading etc. justifies for larger gaps but in general, voices that are further apart than one octave will be perceived as individual elements rather than one homogenous unit.

The one exception for this rule is the bass function which is fine to be further than one octave apart from the next voice.
